IRIDIUM COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

IRIDIUM is a telecommunications satellite system composed of a total of 72 satellites in orbit, of which 66 are operational and 6 are in reserve.

The satellites are defined at low altitude or LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and in addition to limiting the communication delay typical of GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) satellites such as Thuraya and Inmarsat, they allow global coverage even at high polar latitudes.
